Namaste!
I’m Pujita, an experienced practitioner of the ancient art of Yoga. I believe that things happen in this universe for a reason. I guess such was the will of the universe which prompted me to start my journey in the amazing field of yoga! Here is my story…
A Little About Me…
I’m from the background of events marketing and management with no prior knowledge about yoga at all!
Events management was my bread and butter. The honeymoon phase of my job was fantastic; meeting new people, a vast amount of learning, humongous opportunities, and numerous travel trips!
But once the honeymoon phase got over, I hit reality. Late (and long) nights 3-4 times a week, being on your toes working and executing events while managing the people be it rain or storm. It turned out to be a very demanding job. My mental and physical health started deteriorating drastically. I lost about 10 kgs in two years! Later, I was even diagnosed with PCOS. I decided to quit my job and give myself some time to heal and start fresh. And it was the best decision I have ever made!
But every time that I even thought about having to go back to my job, would give me a panic attack!
As I was healing through the break, my doctor advised me to start yoga for a healthier lifestyle; physically and mentally. I was very sceptical in the beginning and hence first started by reading about yoga, watched some videos to learn about it. I started spending hours reading and learning about yoga.
Then… suddenly I had a realisation! That Yoga was the missing piece in my life that I never knew about. I was drawn towards yoga in a way I had never felt before and I just knew that this is the career I want to build for myself, become a yoga trainer which would help me stay healthy both mentally and physically and also allow me to do some good for others, by guiding them.
My Journey With Yoga….
Now that the Yoga bug had me, I spent my energy and time learning this!
I was in London at that time, and I had already started reading articles on how to become a certified yoga trainer and what were the different paths one can pursue after the Yoga teacher certification. After an in-depth research, I looked for online courses, as due to covid situation back in 2020 I didn’t want to attend offline classes.
But then one of my friends made me realise that I had never done yoga before, and it is essential to gain practical in person understanding (bookish knowledge and theory is no doubt important but a practical experience is equally helpful). Therefore, I now started looking for offline courses.
I’m glad that I took her advice and researched for offline institutes near my house in New Delhi, India and picked the institute whose ideology and teaching methods resonated the most with me.
Soon after I started my training and it wasn’t easy at all !
Two hours of pushing the body beyond its limits every day, even when my body had not completely healed, and I was still struggling with my weight and PCOS. But within 10 days I started seeing some notable positive changes: in my physical health, in my weight and most importantly in my mental health and peace. I started feeling positive again.
However, there were many days during my three and a half months of training where I just didn’t feel like doing yoga, felt aches in every single muscle of my body, and at one point I even pulled my hamstring muscles in a painful way because of which I couldn’t perform yoga for more than a week.
But gradually one learns to understand their own body and knows when it is asking you to stop and That's when the connection of your mind and body and your inner self deepens. Those were the most enlightening three and a half months of my life, all thanks to my two humble teachers.
Transformation of a Student…
And then it was time to get into the social and monetary aspect of it.
Yes, earning from your profession is the core reason why you work. But surprisingly it didn't feel like the only reason for me; and somewhere I feel other yogis and yoginis might have felt the same. As necessary earning is in this field, the desire to help others through yoga becomes equally important. It is one of the best feelings that I have ever experienced in my life so far!
I started my journey as a yoga trainer, initially by giving my friends and family free of cost classes to gain the experience of taking sessions. After about two months of experience with lots of hard work and self-training, I started taking paid sessions. Like any other field, it wasn’t a quick start.
I had started my yoga page on Instagram and Facebook only recently and they didn’t even have 50 followers. The biggest challenge was my brand's visibility and promotion to get clients. It took a while to get my first two clients but then there was no stopping me!
Gratitude…
One of the best feelings about this job is when your clients tell you that they have seen positive changes in their health; physical or mental or even emotional, since they started their yoga journey with you. Be it back pain, migraine, bad posture, weight management, pcos balance or asthma, I feel a sense of accomplishment to know that I could help cure them through my knowledge.
The positive impact happening in societies all around the world through yoga is why I love this profession. On my Instagram and Facebook pages, I often get messages asking yoga asanas for some or the other problems and I feel so happy to guide them through it. I hope to keep the flame of yogic knowledge alive by helping others live a positive and healthy life!
If you are looking for some guidance in general, then stay tuned to check out my next blog releasing soon.
But there is no end to learning and growing hence, I know I still have a lot to learn to expand my knowledge and finesse my yoga skills to serve my clients even better.
If you are wanting to start your yoga journey but not sure from where to take the first step, just message or DM me @yoginipujita and I will guide you along!
Till Then…Happy Practising!
Namaste !
